Freeman Dyson and Global Warming

June 3rd, 2008 § 0

I was watching one of the seminars on the long now episodes and the guest were Freeman Dyson, his son George and daughter Ester.  The discussion was very informative and interesting and ranged from nuclear power and Project Orion to the environment.  This last point is what I found most interesting.  It appears that Professor Dyson is not completely convinced by the case for global warming.

Personally I found it refreshing that someone of Dyson stature and credentials feels the way he does regarding the issue of global warming.  His arguments are largely based on the fact that there are too many unaccounted variables and too much dependencies on computational models.  And computational models are only as good as the data entered into them.  Unfortunately most people are under a false sense of security when it comes to computational models and the media has done very little to enlighten society on such models and the problems with them.
